Fresh from Church and looking Particularly Ashy

This has been a crazy week for days. Super Bowl Sunday, Super/Fat Tuesday and of course, Ash Wednesday. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the holiday, Ash Wednesday is the day that Catholics go to church and get palm ash smeared on their foreheads. It has something to do with being made of dirt. Its all biblical and junk.

Today, my coworker, fresh from church and looking particularly ashy, was approached by our German intern. He was seeing the ash covered foreheads all day and had gotten himself more than a little confused. I guess Catholics are not thick on the ground in Germany.

“Are you all wearing the black stuff because you are supporting Barack Obama?” he asked earnestly.

“Yes” my coworker replied. “Yes we are.”
