only in new york

Rode my bike down to Union Square yesterday to run some weekend errands. As i was riding down 14th street, i noticed the air was full of white bits - i assumed it was some sort of pollin (happy spring, by the way); it turns out it was feathers that were a byproduct of the world’s largest pillow fight. as if that wasn’t weird enough, i turned the corner and, holy fuck … swarms of cops in riot gear trying to contain an intense Tibetan freedom rally. Freedom for Tibet and giant pillow fights are both things i can get behind, but the fact that they were happening less than 100 yards from one another without any sort of acknowledgement of or interaction with the other, was as absurd as it was disheartening. (Or inspiring?) Regardless, it was definitely a New York City moment: a reminder that subway rules always apply.
