I feel a little better about the world ending, like maybe it might not.

hot globeJust listened to the exceptionally-produced RadioNation with Laura Flanders to a great interview with Bill McKibben. If you’re new to the tree-hugging, he’s a lovely writer and legendary in many ways and always has an interesting take on consumption; he’s also a big player in the efforts to slow/stop global warming, which is good because my roommates parents live in Miami and he doesn’t want them to drown or have to move in with us.

Anyway, in the interview he talked some about the enormous Connecticut-sized chunk of ice that fell off Antarctica. (Side note: it’s funny how a Connecticut-sized chunk falling off Antarctica bothers me, while the prospect of Connecticut falling off into the Atlantic … not so much.) He made me feel a little better and offered some hope, discussing several efforts that are making headway. One is this 350.org project, which sounds interesting and is worth a look. He was also adamant that — however measured — some of the positions of both Clinton and Obama really could make a little bit of a dent in the crisis.
