Obama’s Big Mistake

redneck2.jpgOn Friday Barack Obama spoke at a closed-press fundraiser in California where he said some pretty harsh things about former and current President Bush as well as former President Clinton’s handling of issues that effect the rural poor.

“You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them…And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not,”

Ok. Good point. Well said. Now shut up. But you’re not going to shut up, are you Barack…

“And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations,”

Fuck.

R.J. “Bucky” Cutterman, a prominent Pennsylvania businessman, was quick to respond to what was percieved as comments offensive to Pennsylvanians in general.

Hey boy! Why come you talk like a fag?! If I ever catch you on my lawn again, so help me Jesus, I’ll get my scattergun and send you off to Arab heaven!

Cutterman, who splits his time between his successful bait and tackle shop and his position as a local school board president then added “And I don’t like it when coloreds dress better’n me neither. I ain’t no dang immigrant!”

And that kids, is how Barack Obama lost Pennsylvania by 79% and John McCain became President.

  1. You can always vote for Nader…

  2. Well, Barack IS an elitist. Elitists slip every now and then. Doesn’t make him wrong, just proof that he can make boo-boos like any other politician. BUT WHAT IS INTERESTING IS THE LAST NAME CUTTERMAN!! In the Pocono’s where Stirling and I grew up, that name is synonymous with Poor White Trash. In the Poconos, African Americans had jobs and paid taxes. The lowest class, poorest, most ignorant people were white. When you want to put someone down in the Poconos, you say, “You Cutterman!” And they say, “Who you calling Cutterman?” Actually the name is a slurring of “Counterman”, the original family that lived in the hills and somehow earned this reputation.

  3. Finally! I can send someone to the internet when I need to explain the word cutterman and what it means! The only person I know anymore who actively uses that word is my father. But seriously, the people Obama could possibly have offended by that were not going to vote for him anyway.

  4. I really expected better from Pinkomag — you shouldn’t be repeating mainstream media talking points. This whole manufactured “outrage” about Obama’s “gaffe” is the most infuriating thing that’s happened in the whole campaign.

What? Jobs leaving small towns haven’t made people bitter? So people don’t get angry and cling to things that make them familiar — like their guns and their God? And people don’t get angry and resentful and start fearing those outsiders — like brown people, gay people and coastal elitists??

    Jimminy Crickets!! Ya don’t say!!

  5. Paul,
I wholeheartedly agree. For the life of me I can’t understand why this is an issue. I also couldn’t understand why a clip of a slightly too excited Howard Dean “screaming” was played so frequently in the 2004 primaries that it drove him from the race. So what the hell do I know?

The fact of the matter is that the MSM has been running with this story for days now, and as of today Barack has gone from a tie in PA to a 20 point deficit.

  6. I wouldn’t be so sure. One poll has her up by 20 points, and there are serious questions about its accuracy: http://blogs.wsj.com/numbersguy/is-clintons-pennsylvania-lead-really-20-points-319/

Now we’re starting to see people say, “you know Barack is right.” Even Fox News went out to interview folks in Pennsylvania, and guess what? They were not offended, and did not find it condescending: http://www.crooksandliars.com/2008/04/13/foxnews-rural-pennsylvanians-find-little-to-argue-with-barack-obama/

  7. My point is this: the media has to stop hyperventilating, think for about five seconds about what Hillary Clinton and John McCain are saying, and decide for themselves if it’s actually true. The problem is they don’t, and perception becomes reality. It’s our job to make them think.

  8. The polls that are coming out today appear to be much less alarming then I had originally assumed. There is also some talk that even with Hillary’s current lead, she may only decrease the pledge delegate gap by something like 3… Not a big help. Obama’s “gaffe” will certainly be replayed in the general, but by that point people might not really care.

So yeah. Paul was right on this one.
