Pinko Magazine Hedonism + Activism

I’ve been meaning for a few weeks to introduce a new Pinko feature — our non-profit of the week. There are lots of awesome not-for-profits of course, and having worked in a couple I think that everyone working in that community could use a little Pinko love.

Then today I came across a pretty amazing organization: Porn for the Blind. It’s not what I’d had in mind, I’ll be honest: I was thinking about WITNESS, or maybe the Urban Justice Center, or perhaps Media Matters, whose staff comprises 78% of Pinko readers. But Porn for the Blind is one of those totally amazing finds where people are just doing something nice for someone else in a really interesting way.

The basic idea is pretty simple: you’re blind, but looking to enjoy yourself. There are lots of websites out there that could be interesting to you. Porn for the Blind connects the dots; their mission: “is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to producing audio descriptions of sample movie clips from adult web sites. This service is provided free of charge.” How can YOU help? It’s pretty simple — you can do a recording, ideally from the list of suggested porn that site users would like translated.

The organization, based in Suburban Boston, aims to make millions of audio clips available for use.

Our only complaint: One of the sites up for “audio description,” MILF Soup, seems to not be what any of us thought a “MILF” was. It’s mostly young, buxom women photocopying their breasts. Maybe the “M” stands for something else? It’s not the fault of the organization though. Oh! Also some of the recordings are a little flat, and we think they would be hotter if people like … got into it more. But still, you get the point with all of them.
