Watching Me Watching You…

File this under DIY ingenuity, Big Brother style surveillance, or both.

Unsigned UK band The Get Out Clause has found a way to make a music video on the cheap and draw attention to the 13 million (13 million!) CCTV cameras currently monitoring English countrymen.

The band set up and played their song in front of these cameras (including in elevators, taxis and on a city bus) and then used Britain’s Data Protection Act to obtain copies of the footage. The results are mixed, but the variety of footage speaks to the utter ubiquity of security cameras. Now if they could only figure out getting the NSA to record their entire album using nothing but bugged cellphone conversations.
