Extremely Hot Man for Senate (D-Nebraska).
Besides the Presidential race, there are dozens of compelling stories about Congressional, Senate and local races where progressives and Democrats are competitive in places where they haven’t really competed for decades. Like, if I told you that this totally hot, extremely bang-tastic, very progressive 32-year old Yale educated rancher-stud was mere inches away from winning the Democratic Primary in Nebraska on Tuesday, you’d probably say that I was high and should just stop blogging and go watch Brokeback Mountain, right? Well: Scott Kleeb, a rising progressive star in Nebraska, is neck and neck in a tight primary this Tuesday and has a real shot at winning one of Nebraska’s two Senate seats in the Fall if he can pull out a win this week.
My very sharp friend Paul explains the mechanics of the race better than I ever could, but the basic summary is this: lots of grassroots enthusiasm and the so-called “Obama effect” (new progressive Democratic voters on the rolls) have opened up the possibility that Kleeb could win the primary against the other “Democrat” in the race, a wealthy social conservative and former Bush appointee named Tony Raimondo. The race has galvanized Democrats in this long-conservative state, actually putting the state in play for the Presidential race: a hypothetical McCain-Obama matchup showed Obama trailing by only 3 points in fucking Nebraska, which is pretty crazy.
For all the talk about Obama/Clinton/McCain, Kleeb is part of another big 2008 storyline: races where corporate, centrist Democrats are losing to more progressive alternatives, pulling the whole Congress (and country?) to the left. A good example is the inspiring Donna Edwards race in Maryland, which you should totally read about if you’re not up on it.
Sadly it’s too late to make a plea to give Kleeb any money or support for the primary. But do stay tuned: if he wins Tuesday he’ll face a tough general election race and can use our support. A couple good links: ActBlue is a good place to give him some money come Wednesday; OpenLeft has done a really nice job following the Kleeb race and efforts to boot out the “DINOs” (Democrats in Name Only). Also if Kleeb wins on Tuesday our friend Paul will probably experience some sort of rapturous political-sexual convulsion, and he’ll send us some NSFW pictures you won’t want to miss.

Here’s hoping the other campaign isn’t following the playbook of the presidential race too closely. The press release practically writes itself:
“Kleeb Refuses to Denounce Gay Web Site: Raimondo Dismisses Controversy, Calls for End to ‘Gutter Politics’.
LINCOLN, Ne. - The Raimondo campaign today called for an end to gutter politics in the U.S. Senate campaign, urging his opponent for the Democratic nomination for U.S. senate, Scott Kleeb, to put an end to rumors about his sexual orientation. Kleeb has refused calls from Nebraskans across the state to denounce a gay web site that endorsed Kleeb’s candidacy, calling him “bang-tastic”. Pinkomag.com is a New York City-based web site that describes itself as promoting a hedonistic lifestyle. The endorsement has left some Nebraskans wondering what the 32-year old Kleeb, a Yale-educated, married father of two, may be hiding.
“I’m sure Scott Kleeb is not some kind of a closet homosexual,” said Raimondo. “But he owes it to the people of Nebraska to denounce this endorsement so we can get on to the issues that matter in this campaign.”
Obama girl is way hotter. Talk about bang-tastic!
Pinko’s gonna sink Kleeb’s campaign though… They like to eat MEAT out there in corn land.
Go Hot Kleeb!! Besides being devastatingly gorgeous, Scott’s also a real down-to-earth guy you can have a beer with. The kind of handsome boy-next-door who would rush in to save a kitten from a burning building. Anyway, there’s already a Facebook group called “Scott Kleeb is very good looking” — it’s a bit female-centric, so I’d suggest a few gay men join too. Maybe convince them to change the title so it’s a bit more sassy!
Scott Kleeb won BIG!!! By a 68-32 margin!! And yes, Pinko did not lead to his downfall. We win!!
