This is good news, right?
The Department of Transportation said figures from March show the steepest decrease in driving ever recorded. I realize that the decrease in driving is because the economy is tanking and we’re all going to end up living in Hoovervilles and eating canned tuna for Christmas dinner, but it’s long been a goal of environmentalists to have people DRIVE LESS. Also, $4 gas is like, what the rest of the world pays. If we actually combine this with public investment in transit, it could be the start of something really great.
