Enough with the cranes already!

NYC Crane Collapse

If you’ve looked at the New York City skyline recently, then you know that, as a city, we are crapping out (up?) more abominable Gerhy-esque condos then there are Saudi princes to buy them to use as gold bar storage. The fervor to fulfill the seemingly endless demand for these buildings has led to some cut corners. As a result at least one more person is dead.

It isn’t entirely clear to me exactly who is to blame for the most recent crane collapse (our second in two months) that took out a hunk of East 91st street this morning, but for the love of all that is sacred, can we please figure out a better solution? We New Yorkers are particularly sensitive when it comes to massive structures collapsing without warning.

Bonus: Curbed has a run down of some of NYC’s greatest crane related hits. Apparently this whole “crane collapse in New York kills_” thing is a far more frequent occurrence then I had realized. They also have an article on Azure, the building that was being assembled when the crane collapsed. If you act now, maybe you can get your new Azure UES apartment at a discount!

  1. I thought those birds were more stable than that — and smaller.

  2. That’s just what they WANT you to think.

  3. “then there are Saudi princes to buy them” — is Barack Obama moving to NYC omg!

  4. Yes. He is going to become the President and then quit and run against Hillary in the Senate primary just to be a dick.
