Something for “Nothing”
D.C. rapper and Go-Go enthusiast Wale (think valet not whale) has a new mix tape out called “The Mix Tape About Nothing”. As you might have guessed from the title and cover art, it contains more than a few references to Seinfeld.
If you’re already skeptical, rest assured that Wale’s skill as a lyricist lends more depth and gravity to the effort than it’s titular sitcom gimmick implies.
That’s not to say I can give a 100% endorsement. The f-word appears here a little more often than I’d like (not fuck, the other f-word) but then a profanity laced shout-out/endorsement from Julia Louis-Dreyfus almost allows me to forgive and forget. Also, Michael Richards’ night club freak out juxtaposed with frank talk about language and race on “The Kramer” is, on it’s own merits, worth a thumbs-up.
You can listen to the entire mix tape here and grab the artist sanctioned free download here (tracks 1-10) and here (tracks 11-19).

Gosh. I was thinking more along the lines of Samuel Beckett and Texts For Nothing. Is that not what he meant? That would have fit especially well with a Welsh joke.

what is the OTHER f word?
