McCain Attacks Obama for Denouncing the Holocaust

hmmmIn our several months of producing Pinko, I’ve learned a thing or two. Mention Vanessa Williams: traffic goes up. Write high-minded posts highlighting awesome non-profits: traffic goes down. Etc. One thing I know for sure, though, is not to fuck with the holocaust. Today in Israel Barack Obama visited Yad Vashem, the extremely solemn Israeli holocaust memorial. While there, Obama made the following radical socialist muslim inexperienced statement:

“Let our children come here and know this history so they can add their voices to proclaim ‘never again.’ And may we remember those who perished, not only as victims but also as individuals who hoped and loved and dreamed like us and who have become symbols of the human spirit.”

The McCain campaigns response: They attacked Obama, (falsely — or extremely tenuously) claiming it contradicted a 2007 interview he gave about appropriate military responses to genocide.  As Ben Smith said at The Politico, “The filters do seem to be off over there, for better or worse: Attacking your rival while he’s visiting a Holocaust memorial, and accusing him of willing complicity in genocide…well, it’s a way to get some attention.” Nice John. Real classy. He’s at a fucking Holocaust memorial lighting candles! Sigh.

Now if you’ll excuse me Stirling and I have to get back to producing marginally-entertaining, line-toeing humor about abortion, 9-11, veganism and the shocking Mexican jalapeno popper salmonella outbreak.

  1. Not to get all serious, but Obama’s quote (if you click through to the Politico) does raise a moral question about when military intervention is appropriate and necessary.

  2. hmmm …. McCain is clearly tone deaf and suffering dementia, or his campaign is … this is pretty outrageous, but does the statement contradict? i don’t know.

  3. @Karen — This is why I was bitching back in 2003 about why we were going into Iraq instead of the Sudan.

  4. this is where it gets tricky yeah; i am generally a pacifist but i would have been okay with going into Sudan; i even understood afghanistan. ugh so many genocides!

  5. by the way i hope that none of this implies i think the Holocaust actually HAPPENED.

  6. The holo-what now?

  7. holla-back girl is such a good song. is that what we’re talking about? why is everyone so mad!

  8. yes but “if i was a rich girl” is clearly anti-semitic and shows disrespect towards israel. Barack Obama must LOVE that song.

  9. Did anyone (traditional media anyone) call out McCain for this today?

  10. mmmm that’s what im talking about.

  11. Wow… She needs a man… BAD.
