John McCain vs. The Celebutaunt?
John McCain’s latest campaign ad attacks Obama’s position on offshore drilling by comparing him to celebrities like Britney Spears and Paris Hilton.
No, I’m not kidding.
The game here appears to be to paint Obama as an over-hyped piece of pop culture who is essentially only famous for being famous. But is potraying your opponent as extremely popular and depicting him being cheered on by hundreds of thousands of adoring fans really the smartest thing to do in an Election?
There are other downsides for the McCain camp here. For one, Cindy McCain and Paris Hilton are only a few decades, and one good sextape, away from being the exact same person. Also, with her well publicized love for pill popping, how long do you think it will be before we see Cindy shave her head and attack a van with an umbrella?
Also, by allowing John McCain to voice these trivial attacks, rather then leaving it to his surrogates, they are running the risk of making John McCain sounding trivial. The diffrence between Paris and Perez is not as big as you may think.
Leave the snark to the bloggers John. It just makes you look cheap.

Yeah, my head hurts from this one–why the hell is this stuff coming directly from the campaign?
Obama’s response was pretty effective:
“You know, I don’t pay attention to John McCain’s ads, although I do notice he doesn’t seem to have anything to say very positive about himself. He seems to only be talking about me… You need to ask John McCain what he’s for and not just what he’s against.”
Sadly, while I agree it would seem the ad kind of shoots McCain in the foot, it did in fact play well with the working class rurals in my family (I ran a quick survey to get reactions). Though they weren’t really die hard Obama supporters to begin with, they have all started to complain about the news coverage he gets (probably got the idea from one of those Fox News pundits).
Your Cindy McCain comments had me laughing out loud.
I live in a die-hard red state, so I don’t get any good ads, but I have noticed that McCain seems to be playing a lot of offense. If the voters are smart enough, they’ll see it for the desperation that it is.
Barack has already been appointed Chancellor of my country this is silly. NICE how the word “foreign” is splashed across his face.
It gets worse. Now McCain is comparing Obama with Moses. No, I’m not kidding: http://www.breitbart.tv/html/143513.html
