What you missed while watching The Olympics

Aug 11th, 2008 | By Stirling | Category: Uncategorized

Everyone has been watching the Olympics this weekend, ourselves included. But while we’ve been speculating whether Michael Phelps shaves, waxes, or is just freakishly hairless, the world has been going on without us. Here is a look at some of the things you may have missed.

The Republican National Committee hates Smarty farties.

The RNC is now poking fun of Barack Obama’s time spent at a radical madrassa the elite Punahou School, a private prep school in Hawaii. It sounds fancy until you reflect that Obama was a scholarship kid. Also, based on his stellar academic career (which includes being named the first black president of the Harvard Law Review) it worked. John McCain also went to elite private schools, where he presumably paid full tuition, but with more lackluster results. Despite spending time at Episcopal High School, a private boarding school in Alexandria, he only graduated 894th out of 899 in his class at Annapolis.

I guess the RNC figures they’ve had great success with the idiot children of privilege so why change it up now?

And speaking of double standards…

NBC: “Will Edwards affair taint Obama?”

WTF? That was the Headline of a segment on The Today Show. Of course, in the story the question is answered by Chuck Todd with a simple “Not at all”. Nice. So why not run something like “Edwards affair unlikely to affect Obama”? Also, Obama is running against a man who left his disabled wife to be with his younger, slightly less disabled mistress. And what about Vicki Iseman? Remember her? Doesn’t this pose a greater political threat to McCain, the serial cheater in the campaign?

Which brings me awkwardly to…

Russia is all up in Georgia.

Russia appears to be wagging war all up in Georgia over the disputed province of South Ossetia. I am WAY out of my depths here, but I can’t imagine Russia attacking a US ally as being a god thing… for anybody.

Speaking of death… (yikes)…

Issac Hayes passed away at 65.

The legendary Oscar winning soul singer was an inspiration to musicians and bald men everywhere.

Also, whoever is in charge of death this week is apparently racist…

Comedian Bernie Mac passed away at 50.

Bernie Mac was an incredibly funny guy. Still, I’ve always had a hard time stomaching him since The Kings of Comedy when he referred to his nephew as a “faggot”. Keep in mind that this is an actual person, not just a character. He latter apologized to the boy and scrapped the joke, but it’s always stuck with me. Hopefully he’ll be remembered for that Ashton Kutcher movie instead. I actually kind of liked that movie.

  1. i used to think Phelps was hot but now i think he’s creepy looking.

  2. also don’t say the word taint.

  3. don’t steroids stop the body hair from growing?

  4. OMG i would PAY to wax him. The “thorpedo” used to have like, pubic hair showing sometimes that was pretty gross. I guess they wax down there too just in case?

  5. uhm, i think the point here is that we’re missing shocking and offensive smears by the Republicans while we drift off into long Michael Phelps fantasies. Eyes on the prize here people!

  6. Hopefully everyone else is missing the shocking and offensive smears too… Wouldn’t count on it though.
