Gay Marry It … or Abort It? 8/18/08

So the Olympics are in full swing and I have a thing or two to say about them. First, Michael Phelps is toe-up. I’m sorry. Second, how great was the synchronized diving? I love how they get right out of the pool and shower together it’s so precious. Lastly, why does NBC want that gymnast girl Shawn Taylor to be America’s sweetheart and not that saucy little Prussian Nastia? I love Nastia. She put the nast in gymnast. Rawr. Anyway, my Olympic rant now complete let’s get to the list! Here are the best and worst of the week that was: the ideas, goods and people we want to gay marry … and the ones John McCain would appoint strict constitutionalist jurists to restrict our access to.

Gay Marry It

The gay sex website Manhunt.net fired the head of its Board of Directors for giving $2300 to John McCain, then apologized to all of its subscribers and gave the money to Barack Obama. The co-founder was despondent, telling a left-leaning blog “I am disappointed that we have lost some customers, and I understand the anger. It is too bad for the web site if we lose customers, but PLEASE never refer to me as a Republican. I consider it an offense.”

Abort It

Manhunt.net refused to delete John McCain’s online cruising profile, screenname AZmaverick4andolderthan69.

Gay Marry It

Madonna. She turned 50 on Saturday! (For the diehards PopSugar.com put together TEN thematically grouped celebratory slide shows. The only time Pinko ever managed a slide show was the time I accidentally uploaded my vacation photos into an article about Fred Thompson.)

Abort It

Malawi. Just let her have as many babies as she wants who cares! (Madonna tried to get another one last week, I guess as a birthday present.)

Gay Marry It

The Goode Family, a new animated sitcom from the King of the Hill creators about a hybrid-driving vegan family airing on ABC this Fall.

Abort It Gay Marry It Too

So I know I’m supposed to hate on this right-wing Michael Moore parody movie but it looks really funny. I might get high and go see it.

Gay Marry It

The latest issue of Good Magazine all about education policy and reform. Usually I don’t like their writing but this issue was very thoughtful and posed some good ideas about schools.

Abort It

Yesterday’s Times piece about public charter schools in New Orleans. It’s fine if charter schools are working and it’s great there are success stories, but an article like that minus a more thorough critique of school privatization is irresponsible.

Gay Marry It

Tyra, for including a trans contestant on the next America’s Next Top Model.

Abort It

Tim, for that lackluster Project Runway showcasing green fabrics and design. Nice try, but I don’t think the show sent anyone running out for the latest organics; it felt like a gimmick and the show could have done a lot better with the topic.

Bonus Round, Vice-Presidential Punditry

Okay okay so I was completely wrong. I’ll try again: Obama’s announcement comes Friday, and it’s either Joe Biden or … Hillary Clinton. Really. McCain announces his running mate the day after the Democratic Convention (8/29) and it’s either … former Ohio Congressman Rob Portman, Ebay CEO Meg Whitman, or Rutherford B. Hayes. He has the experience and he grew up next door to McCain.

  1. American Carol looks hilarious! Reminds me of Team America World Police. Not sure if it’s really intended to make fun of us, or make fun of making fun of us…

  2. [...] know, I know… She is starting to be a bit of a fixture on this list. But the woman is older than dirt, she has 500 adopted children and she still somehow [...]
