Read this! Inside Obama’s grassroots campaign.

Zach Exley has a really fascinating piece online that goes into the mechanics of Barack Obama’s grassroots organizing effort. “Inside the Obama campaign,” he writes,  ”almost without anyone noticing, an insurgent generation of organizers has built the Progressive movement a brand new and potentially durable people’s organization, in a dozen states, rooted at the neighborhood level.”

A lot of it is “inside baseball” but it’s inside baseball worth knowing if you want a good primer into what grassroots organizers do on a campaign and how the “ground game” functions. (so many sports metaphors today!) More importantly it takes that vague idea that I’ve been talking about since last Fall (supporting Obama because there is a “movement” around him that could be lasting) and puts some meat on the bone.
