Swinging Grandma, Volume Three: The calm approach.
John McCain is 72. My Dad is 68. My new approach with my mom is to make the case as simply as I can: should Dad be President? I’m not saying he shouldn’t (he’s a smart guy and would do much better than McCain) but she certainly doesn’t think so. My Mom was telling me the other day that he’s grumpy and can’t hear anymore, just like John McCain. Brilliant! It has to work better than my first two approaches, #1 being “Sarah Palin charges for rape kits! How would you like it if Rachael (my sister) was raped and she had to pay for the rape kit!?” and #2 asking her why she is voting against every moral and value she taught me as a child. Both approaches are losing to that feisty team of mavericks, so it’s time for something new.
Some hopeful news from Pinko reader (and sometimes contributor) Matthew, who has a Father with ties to two swing states that needs no convincing:
I nagged my pop by email to do something in Florida (where he lives) or Ohio (where he’s from). I never heard back from him. But, I found out on Sunday that he spent last week tracking down people with rejected voter registrations in South Florida. There were 1800 dems and independents rejected since Jan 1st this year. 500 in the past month. I’m not sure if that’s from all of Dade County, or just his corner of it. But, go pop!
Matthew’s pop will save democracy! We love it.
