Normally, we wouldn’t pay any heed to such stories, as we have our own right-wing fascism growing at home, but it turns out that the recently deceased leader of Austria’s ascedant “Freedom Party,” Joerg Haider, the so-called ‘yuppie fascist‘ was a bit of a gay party boy. Now that he is gone, his former lover and “protege” will continue to lead the party and carry on Haider’s legacy, which I can only assume involves neo-Nazi theme parties. While the sages teach that a death is never cause for celebration, and Haider’s life partner must be truly devasted, I can’t help but smirk when his fans mourn him as the ultra-right wing Lady Di. I’m sure he will be missed. If only his politics would have passed with him.
