The gay marriage fight in California. [updated]

We've been following some about Proposition 8 in California, the anti-gay marriage amendment that is up in the air right now. It's been a scary and interesting campaign, from an influx of Mormon money and volunteers to a lot of tensions involving alleged (and real) black and latino homophobia. Yesterday, I received an extremely dishonest mailer supporting California's Proposition 8 -- which falsely implies that Barack Obama, who opposes Prop 8, supports it.On a lighter note, the mailer quoted a black minister which the Prop 8 camp will undoubtedly claim was just a typo, but can more accurately be described as a Freudian slip.  Dr. Phillip Goudeaux says Prop 8 is vital for anyone who cares about promoting the "scared" institution of marriage.  That's right ... they are afraid of gay people getting married. The good guys ("No on 8") have been dramatically outspent in a state that is open to gay marriage but could see it go down on Tuesday. Other thoughts from California? How does it look three days out? Update: A friend sent me this piece from Salon, "Proposition 8 vs. Black Homophobia" by LaDoris Cordell, a African-American lesbian hopeful that an "Obama Effect" won't kill gay marriage in California. It's a good overview of some of the interesting politics at play.
