“No Drama Obama.” He’s about to be the President. There will be some drama. It’s fine.

What the fuck?

Doris Kearns Goodwin is just freaking the fuck out right now.

Nov 18th, 2008 | By benwyskida | Category: Politics

She wrote the now-ubiquitous Team of Rivals. On my plane ride home I saw her on three different channels in an hour! All because Barack Obama is going to appoint … yes,  a team of rivals to his cabinet. Or rather one rival, so far, maybe, if her husband gives up the goods on his international dealings. At this point [...]

Angry Tuesday!

Nov 18th, 2008 | By benwyskida | Category: Politics

PINKO DAILY BRIEFS. Grrrr. My therapist wants me work on expressing anger more freely. Accordingly: The Economist wrote this piece about President Bush and his efforts to gain a “green halo” by declaring massive ocean preserves in the Pacific. Fine. I know you’re The Economist, but are you really going to give it up that easy? [...]

h8 on 8 from the Golden Gate. (or, why gay marriage lost and what’s next.) [updated]

Nov 17th, 2008 | By benwyskida | Category: Politics

So I’m still in San Francisco, where the continuing fallout and debate around Prop 8/gay marriage feels particularly intense. There were massive rallies. Bloggers, media and even Pinko commenters are freaking out. Gays are mailing fake anthrax to mormons.
Personally I’ve never been particularly passionate about the issue. I want my rights (which, if you watched the Presidential debates [...]

And all Oprah will give you is a new car.

Nov 17th, 2008 | By benwyskida | Category: Politics

Oprah can’t put this under your seat on her season premiere. Tyra Banks surprised Isis King, the trans contestant from America’s Next Top Model, with gender reassignment surgery. I missed the whole ANTM season, more or less so I haven’t followed the politics here. Did this work out well? Was this whole thing a gain, [...]

Guantanamo really closing, torture really ending?

Nov 17th, 2008 | By benwyskida | Category: Politics

A quick note about that interview Barack Obama did on 60 Minutes last night. The buzz will be all about puppies and how he’s awesome, but something more important happened. He made a clear and unequivocal commitment to closing Guantanamo and ending torture quickly after he gets into office. Those were important priorities and this is [...]

Pinko Daily Briefs: Looking Ahead

Nov 17th, 2008 | By benwyskida | Category: Politics

PINKO DAILY BRIEFS: By afternoon today we should be back up to regular blogging speed. Hopefully everyone had a really great weekend like we did and you didn’t mind the lax posting. There are a few big themes for this week and stories we’ll be following. In brief, what’s up for the next few days:
1. [...]

This “Team of Rivals” crap needs to stop.

Nov 16th, 2008 | By Stirling | Category: Politics

So, Doris Kearns Goodwin wrote this book called “Team of Rivals” about how Abraham Lincoln was a political genius because he appointed people to his cabinet who didn’t agree with him and made fun of his hat or whatever. Barack Obama said he liked it. It is, objectively speaking, a good book. Lots of people [...]
