Gay Marry This Gift: Pinko’s Holiday Wishlist, Part One.
Dec 15th, 2008 | By Team Pinko | Category: Essentials
In the spirit of the season we asked our regular contributors to tell us what they're hoping to have under their (trees/menorahs/doormats) this (Christmas/Hanukkah/Late December). We got back a ton of great suggestions. Now we are going to regift them to you in our first annual Gay Marry This Gift: Pinko's Holiday Wishlist!
PinkoSandy (aka author Charles London) says the best gift of 2008 is this fantastic book published in 2007. Oh wait, we see what he did there. Also, check out these hand soaps that look like a bag of severed baby hands. They're multicultural AND incredibly disturbing. More seriously, how about A Thanksgiving Coffee Company gift basket? Aside from the fact that the founder of the company was a speechwriter for RFK, their products make a real difference in the lives of the farmers who produce their coffee, chocolate and other products. Charles says the Sales Director once told him "We are in the business of creating a different kind of business and through that business, creating a different kind of world. Imagine an economy where we talk about interactions rather than transactions." I mean, the coffee's good too...what more can you want?
Speaking of which, Brooklyn's own Gorilla Coffee is doing a great silk screened gift box filled with your choice of any 3 bags of their insanely strong organic, fair trade beans. Pinko wrote about Gorilla a year ago, featuring Liza Featherstone's fabulous fair trade taste test, won handily by the Brooklyn beanery.
Earlier this year Britta Phillips gave us the gift of an exclusive interview. Now we're looking to repay that favor by placing an order from the Dean & Britta webstore. Right now when you order a CD, T-shirt or signed copy of Dean's book Black Postcards they are giving away a coupon for a free 5-track download, comprised of music cues for The Squid & the Whale and Just Like the Son. If you aren't familiar with Dean & Britta you should really check them out. PinkoStirling recommends L' Avventura. Evey song is so good that it sounds like it's from the greatest mixed tape ever made. It will make you want to make out with Santa. Mrs. Claus will not approve! Home wrecker!!
PinkoJenn strongly suggest the Mr. Bento Stainless Lunch Jar. It eliminates the need for plastic baggies. Also something about the whole package helps you keep it all together, and not loose all that plastic ware. Now if only they made it from more sustainable materials.
PinkoKate likes this sleek and renewable indoor garden, since we'll all have to grow our own food in the post apocalyptic America. She also recommends donating to a charity in your friends/family members honor. They can't regift it, you don't have to tell them how much, and they can never ever EVER say they don't like it out loud for fear of seeming like a big dickface. Pinko recommends giving to somewhere like Physicians for Human Rights. They do really important work and they look much better on a gift card than Porn for the blind.
More ideas? We'll have some good ... and some bad later this week. Drop suggestions in the comments.
