Vigilante shootings in New Orleans; Read, watch and write.

A quick plug for a story I've been working on at The Nation. It's a massive investigation by A.C. Thompson into vigilante shootings after Hurricane Katrina. There are two parts, the first is about shootings of black residents by white vigilantes while they were trying to flee New Orleans. The second is about one specific case that the police may have been very involved in. If you're so moved there is a petition at Color of Change calling for an investigation. After the jump is a video about the piece. It has something I know you've been craving since those Sarah Palin rallies: Extremely racist white people who will say anything to a camera.
This article has definitely gotten the discussion going over one metafilter: http://www.metafilter.com/77571/Katrinas-Hidden-Race-War
A man may have a right to shoot an intruder in his house, but to not allow someone into their own neighbourhood, especially victims of a flood seeking higher ground-this is despicable. To see that these vigilantes, like Bush are going to escape prosecution is extremely disappointing.
I am a liberal, pinko, communist, environmentalist, pro-gun control union carpenter from Vancouver, Canada.I have been to Mexico 7X.I feel safer in Mexico than the US, since I am never carrying a concealed handgun, nor wearing a Kevlar vest, nor do I want to do this always.
I also wish to add that I have been boycotting the US and not traveling to the US since Bush was first elected.I will probably permit myself to lift this ban if, and I am hopeful (Obamanos!)that Obama and his administration, are good people.Je suis Francaise et je tene parientes dans la ville de New Orleans.I am French and I have relatives in New Orleans.
