SLIDESHOW: Top Thirteen Television Judges Barack Obama Should Name to the Supreme Court

May 4th, 2009 | By benwyskida | Category: Politics

Since Thursday’s stunning announcement that Supreme Court Justice David Souter was stepping down to return to his “lifelong bachelor lifestyle in New Hampshire,” (how did we miss that story?) pundits and legal scholars have been looking to President Obama’s record for any hint of what kind of justice he may appoint to the highest court in the land. Will he name an “activist-judge” who will also perfom abortions from the bench? A strict constitutionalist? A stunning, “swing for the fences” pick, like naming Hillary Clinton Secretary of State?

Rather than parsing Barack Obama’s history as a legal scholar, it may be instructive to go back to the one tactical move that didn’t pan out in his first hundred days: Naming sexpot hair-daddy Dr. Sanjay Gupta from CNN as his Surgeon General. Clearly Obama wants more than great minds and experience in high office. He wants people that have been on television. While the pundits throw out their ideas, here is our look at the top thirteen celebrity and television judges that President Obama may be considering for the Supreme Court Vacancy.

  1. So many options yet so many we left out! What about Judge Reinhold for instance? What better judicial experience could you get then being in all of the Beverly Hills Cop movies? Also, he’s from Delaware, so you know it would make Biden happy.

(As a note, I know some of the copy is a little small so be sure to click on the little screen icon in the lower right to get the full screen experience.)

  2. I’ll allow this.

  4. Can’t you just see Judge Judy asking all the tough questions from the bench? I love that…

I’m a bit confused by the clamor for a female judge though. There aren’t any gays on the court, but there are way more gays than women on TV! I think. Anyway, Tim Gunn would be my top choice here. If the dapper one can’t make through confirmation, Iron Chef Cat Cora would be my second choice.

No, this doesn’t give you any insight at all into my television viewing choices. At all.

  5. Oh shit I forgot Tim Gunn! We can’t replace a gay with a gay though …

  6. He’d be great, especially opinions remanding a case to a lower court: “Make it work!”

  7. Tim Gunn! Never a kinder or more instructive judge!

  8. My standard is “who will say nasty things to the dim bulb justices like Thomas & Scalia” [and maybe drive them off the court]?

Thus Tim Gunn & Judy Judy are high on my list.

  9. i admire Barack Obama because he is very charismatic and he is liberal minded.

  10. So happy that you included Judge Greg Mathis in this list. I love this slideshare and will share it everywhere!

  11. i believe that Barack Obama is the president that the US needs in these hard times. I do not like the local and foreign policy of any Rebublican.

  12. Barack Obama is a very special person since he is the first black president of the United States of America. his ability as a president is also very good and his plans for economic recovery is a good one. f

  13. Barack Obama may be a charismatic leader but somehow his economic policies is not that great in my own opinion. But still i am thankful that a Obama is the current president of the unitied states.
