You are so sweet on Sonia! Watch the hearings live here.

In the month and a half since President Obama nominated Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court, we’ve learned some awesome things about our impending wise latina justice. She power-walks across the Brooklyn Bridge; she loves baseball; she’ll eat the shit out of a slice and likes to down some serious sushi at Nobu. This week the Republicans in the Senate will try to eviscerate Sotomayor, labeling her a reverse-racist and an “activist judge,” but doing it all in dog-whistle code in an effort to placate their frothing racist base without alienating “swing Latino voters,” who have pretty much swung.

Yes, a four to five-day confirmation hearing may seem boring, but the Supreme Court confirmation hearing is one of the great rituals in politics. You should have it on all day, all week at work and not miss a minute. Thanks to the great independent media site The Uptake (with some help from Mother Jones) and to Pinko, you don’t have to. Watch it live, here, every day. The hearings are generally 10-5 with breaks – midday Monday is Sotomayor’s opening statement. Will she walk around the Senate putting bags over the head of all white male senators and speak only to women and non-white people? WE HOPE. Watch: (Are you watching?)

{Note: When the hearings aren’t happening you’ll see what looks like some weird dude in his living room. He’s not weird – he’s one of the great people who run the Uptake and do all this live-streaming. He may be in his living room, though. I don’t know. Just be patient and wait until 10.]
