What the fuck?

And all Oprah will give you is a new car.

Oprah can’t put this under your seat on her season premiere. Tyra Banks surprised Isis King, the trans contestant from America’s Next Top Model, with gender reassignment surgery. I missed the whole ANTM season, more or less so I haven’t followed the politics here. Did this work out well? Was this whole thing a gain, [...]

Do it for the children.

Our friend Gwynne from the progressive parenting website babble sends this over:
We can argue all day about McCain’s national security credentials or Obama’s health care plan, but there’s one area in which Barack Obama is clearly the superior candidate: his name is way more fun to say. Especially if you’re three.
Check it out.

Now if only [...]

Winning the Culture Wars

Benjamin Svetkey has a great article in the most recent Entertainment Weekly in which he casts the racy landscape of our pop culture (teenagers making with the oral sex during school hours on 90210) against the quaint olden days when Murphy Brown getting knocked up was viewed as the seventh seal of the apocalypse.
Svetkey points [...]

Lip-Schtick

Yesterday, at a campaign event in Virginia, Barack Obama employed an old southern colloquialism to describe Senator McCain’s assertion that he is now the candidate of change. Here is what Obama said:
“John McCain says he’s about change too, and so I guess his whole angle is, ‘Watch out George Bush – except for economic policy, [...]

Take that Saddam.

According to the LA Times, we’ve made Iraqis fat. And yes, the headline is actually “Another Iraqi Casualty of War: Their Waistlines.”

For Said, the next step is learning to eat tiny portions totaling about 2,500 calories a day, a fraction of what he used to consume. That means giving up the delicious mounds of chicken, [...]

John McCain, Flag Thief

Today McCain supporters distributed 12,000 mini American flags at a rally in Colorado Springs. They claimed they “rescued” the flags from Obama’s acceptance speech in Denver were they found them in the trash. What?! They were just going to throw away flags! That’s not change you can believe in!
Shortly after the news broke, the DNC [...]

ISO St. Paul closets; some reflections on Denver.

I’ll be in Minneapolis for the next week, watching the Republicans feign concern over Hurricane Gustav and working vigorously to out closeted, self-hating lithe and fit gay Republicans. I can promise more frequent blogging than from Denver as well as some more adventurous reporting. My goal in Minneapolis is to find as many strange and [...]

Back to school tomorrow!

This is the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen. It’s a photo gallery of disgusting school lunches. My favorite is the taco patty. Gross! Here is a great Farm to School program you can support if the gallery has spurred you to act!

I think it’s time for a pep talk.

I know this is probably the last thing you want to hear right now. I just think you ought to know. Obama is going to lose.
We are going to have the most conservative Supreme Court we have ever had. We are going to lose the right to an abortion. We are going to find ourselves [...]
