Pinko’s [Top Ten] Greatest Campaign Moments!

I know it’s a little early to get nostalgic for Campaign 2008, but it’s been a good ride. Before the votes are cast we wanted to take a look back, humbly, at one media outlet that’s made an impact: Pinko. Here are our ten finest moments:
10. Last December we went out on a limb and [...]

Gay Marry It… Or Abort It? Summer Vacation Edition

Lots of crazy stuff happened this week. Ryan Seacrest proved that you shouldn’t swim for at least two hours after having Rhinoplasty. John McCain proved that the entire Republican platform now consists of whining about Barack Obama. And rapper Nas proved that threating Bill O’Rielly with cannibalism actually counts as elevating the debate over at [...]

Obama and Hillary in Unity.

I’ve been watching the Obama/Clinton rally in Unity, NH, and as a communications strategist I’m pretty impressed with the whole spectacle, from the matching blue outfits on up. As a progressive I’m glad to see them coming together. It is strange though: The whole issue of the last month is “will women support Obama,” and [...]

John McCain, Ladies Man

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before. It’s the one about how rape is like the weather…
As long as it’s inevitable, you might as well lie back and enjoy it.
What’s that? You have heard that one before? Maybe that’s because when oil tycoon and failed gubernatorial candidate Clayton Williams made that joke in 1990 [...]

Overly Over (Almost)

I have been yelling and screaming (mostly to myself) about how ludicrous Hillary’s “popular vote” claims are. A fair estimation (Iowa, Nevada, Washington & Maine haven’t released any popular vote totals) puts Obama up by something like 44,605 votes. Granted, that’s not a terribly huge margin, but it does shoot a pretty big whole in [...]

But wait there’s Florida! And Michigan! And more super-delegates! And … oh fuck it just shoot him.

Okay this is really too much. Hillary Clinton, today, the emphasis is mine:
“My husband did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June, right? We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California. I don’t understand it.”
Just a suggestion but Barack [...]

Why is the popular vote so unpopular?

Hillary Clinton wants you to know that she has won the popular vote. She has even gone as fas as to evoke Al Gore by saying that we Democrats should not allow an election to be snatched away from the candidate who has won the popular vote. This would be a provocative argument if it [...]

Patterns

This idea that white people aren’t going to vote for Obama in the general election is very troubling. It’s also built on very faulty logic. No Democrat nominee has been able to capture a majority of the white votes in the general election since before 1992. (Read that line again, slowly.) This is because democrats don’t traditionally win Presidential races by getting a majority of white voters.

Covering the news that really matters.

Today I booked my colleague at The Nation, Betsy Reed, on midday MSNBC. Betsy has a fantastic and very important article out this week, “Race to the Bottom: How Hillary Clinton’s campaign played the race card—and drove a wedge into the feminist movement.” They promised us 15 minutes, which really means 7, which is still [...]

Out of gas.

Okay so this makes me really mad. Everyone is freaking out because gas prices are going up, meaning that now America is close to paying half of what the rest of the world pays for gas, and to deal with it both John McCain and Hillary Clinton have proposed suspending gas taxes (the federal ones, [...]
